The search for a Sri Lankan woman from Denmark, who went missing from here on Thursday, literally went viral with police tracing her from Chennai, where she was with a ‘Facebook friend’, on Friday.

Danish citizen Marry Renida Aloysius (42), was reunited with her husband Aloysius on Friday evening, police said. The couple and their five-year-old daughter arrived in India on July 16. After touring various places, they reached Madurai on July 18. They stayed at the TVS Nagar residence of Ashokan, a friend of Aloysius’.

They were scheduled to depart for Denmark from the Tiruchy airport by a flight on Thursday night.

On Thursday evening,  Marry told her husband that she was going to visit a shop located in nearby Kovalan Nagar and left. However, she didn’t return home even by late evening. Marry’s phone was also switched off.

Aloysius immediately lodged a complaint at the Subramaniapuram police station.

After a search in Madurai turned futile, police collected the woman’s personal details. Aloysius then told police that she had many Facebook friends and that while they were in Chennai before coming to Madurai, they stayed with a man whom she knew through the social networking site.

Police then traced the  ‘Facebook friend’ in Chennai. He told police that Marry was indeed with him.

It turned out that he sent a car to pick up the woman from Madurai on Thursday.

After being instructed by police to do so, he agreed to send Marry back to Madurai on Friday.

According to police, both Marry Rendia and Aloysius were Sri Lankan Tamils who knew each other from the time they were in Sri Lanka.

Aloysius, who left Lanka for Denmark as a refugee, later obtained Demark citizenship.

Aloysius married Marry Rendia, who was 13-years younger to him, in Madurai a few years ago. The couple then left to Demark.

The couple has two children including their five-year-old daughter, a police source said.

Marry Rendia would be produced in court on Saturday, police said.
