Palanichamy swoons in court, hospitalised

P Palanichamy, a shareholder of PRP Granites and PRP Exports, who was arrested in various cases of illegal granite mining, swooned at the Melur Magistrate Court on Friday when he was brought there from the Palayankottai prison for remand extension.

Later he was admitted to the Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai. Melur Magistrate Jaikumar extended the remand of Palanichamy till November 23, when the latter was produced before the court on Friday. Meanwhile counsel for Palanichamy presented a petition to the magistrate praying to shift his client from the Palayankottai prison to the Madurai central jail.

In the petition, it was said that Palanichamy was unwell and his health condition worsened while being brought to Melur from the Palayankottai prison for remand extension. After hearing the counsels for Palanichamy and the government, the magistrate asked them to wait for a while.In the meantime, P Palanichamy, who was waiting outside the court hall, swooned. Dr. Krishnan of Melur  administered first aid and told the authorities that he should be admitted to a hospital. Following this P Palanichamy was taken to the Madurai GRH.
