Seven persons were killed in different accidents across the State on Thursday night and Friday.
In the first accident, three persons were killed and 10 others injured in an accident that occurred near Kayathar in Thoothukudi district on Friday.
According to police, a group of labourers and auto drivers of Sattur Perumal Koil Street who were returning home after completing a tour of Kanyakumari and nearby places. But, on the way at Kayathar, their van developed some snag and the driver stopped the vehicle to set it right. At this juncture, a Namakkal-bound lorry from Nellai rammed the stationary van. In the impact, three occupants of the van, O Sabari (21), M Siva (20) and K Rajkumar (28), were killed on the spot. Nine others were injured and have been admitted at Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, in a similar accident two persons were killed after a bus rammed a stationary sand-laden lorry in Kottampatti during the wee hours of Friday.
Eight persons, including the driver, who were injured in the accident, were admitted to the the GRH.
Police said, the accident occurred when the driver of a Tirupattur-bound TNSTC bus from Salem lost control of the vehicle. Conductor Murugesan (45) of Dharmapuri, and another unidentified person aged around 55 years died on the spot as the front windscreens got smashed in the impact of the collision. Driver Sivakumar and eight others suffered serious injuries. In the meantime, Perumal (55) of Valaicheripatti, who tried to cross the road and reach the accident spot, was killed after an unidentified vehicle knocked him down. Melur police have registered a case.
Meanwhile, in Tirupur, a trader from Kerala was killed and three others injured in a car-lorry smash near Tirupur in the early hours of Friday.
According to police, Bazeer (39) a cattle trader of Ernakulam in Kerala, along with his son Badhuza (11) and his friend Bazeer was on his way to Salem in a car on Thursday night. Saberar (40), of Ernakulam was at the wheel. When the car was nearing Avinashilingampalayam on Coimbatore-Erode Road in the early hours, the driver lost control due to over speed and the vehicle ran amok.
Meanwhile a lorry coming from the opposite direction rammed against the car. In the impact Saberar succumbed to injuries on the spot, while three other passengers in the car sustained severe injuries.
On information the Anuparpalayam police rushed to the spot and sent the injured to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
