Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Monday said his government would initiate talks with neighbouring Tamil Nadu government on getting the Union Territory's share of Cauvery water from Karnataka.

The government will hold talks with Tamil Nadu on the issue, he told reporters here.

Earlier, addressing the first annual convication of Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Institute of Engineering and Technology (PKIET),he said his government would take all steps to set up a Medical College here and also upgrade the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru College of Agriculture & Research Institute (PAJANCOA & RI) as an Agriculture University.

"We will take steps to start a Medical College at Karaikal with private participation. In addition, steps will be taken to convert the PAJANCOA and RI as an University," he said.

The Chief Minister called upon bankers in the UT to be liberal in offering education loans to students of professional courses.

Distributing B.Tech degrees to 130 students in three streams -Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology and Electronics and Communication Engineering, the Chief Minister assured all possible steps to provide more facilities at PKIET, which started functioning from 2007.
