Boy reunites with mom after 3 years

Child line volunteers here rescued a 11-year-old boy who was in the custody of a man in Thiruthuraipoondi for the past three years and reunited him with his mother, near Chattrakudi here on Thursday.

A source from Childline said that Muniammal, wife of Devaraj, a resident of Samathuvapuram at Theeyanur near Chattrakudi, was a fortune teller and used to take her son Vinoth along during her visits to several places. During one such trip in 2010, she had lost her son at the Paramakudi bus stand. Efforts to trace him proved futile.

Recently, the Childline team received information that the boy was being in the custody of one Karnan of Thiruthuraipoondi and tried contacting him over phone. Karnan, fearing police action, approached the Anti-Human Trafficking police unit (AHTU) here along with Vinoth on Wednesday and handed him over to the police. The boy was sent to a home in Ramanathapuram.

On information about the arrival of her son, Muniammal reached the AHTU office along with her relatives.

Ramanathapuram Child line Director Karuppasamy and AHTU Inspector Meenambal held an inquiry with her. After seeking the willingness of the boy, they sent him along with  his mother. Muniammal assured the authorities that she would provide education to her son
