DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi on Monday sidestepped questions over his party’s alliances for the coming LS polls, avoided saying anything that could indicate a shift towards the Congress or BJP.
When asked if his party would continue its truck with Congress, he said he would not comment on it as talks for alliances were yet to begin. He, however, was more cryptic when asked about DMK’s openness to an alliance with BJP. “There is no need for me to tell you about the DMK’s thought process.’’ What was missing from this response was the same categorical tone that he has taken, even in the past few months, ruling out an alliance with BJP, on the grounds that it was ‘communal’.
