In a bid to create gender sensitisation and awareness among the public, the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community launched its website on Tuesday. The community also plans to conduct short-term certificate courses on gender education.

Addressing a gathering while launching the site, the guest of honour T Chinnaraj Joseph Jaikumar, managing trustee of Centre for Education Development and Research, said, “The political opposition the LGBT community faces today is similar to the one faced by women’s movements in the 1990’s. Therefore, creating know-ledge to deconstruct the mainstream understanding of sexuality is essential at this time.”

Sensitisation was of importance in ensuring that everybody enjoyed their rights as was guaranteed by the constitution and to rethink the colonial criminal-

isation of sexuality and gender identities, he said.

The site, www.srishtiglobal.org, was also simultaneously launched from Delhi by Anjali Gopalan, a human rights activist, and from Jerusalem by Bracha L Ettinger, professor in European Graduate School.
