Cadre misunderstood me: Khushboo

Actor-politician Khushboo’s house in Chennai was attacked, while she herself narrowly escaped being hit by a slipper that was hurled at her when she was in Tiruchy on Thursday after several DMK cadre took exception to her comments that although party president M Karunanidhi had said he would propose the name of Stalin as his successor, it is the general council of the party that would select the next chief.

In Tiruchy, sources said a group of women cadre led by DMK women’s wing functionary Pudukkottai Vijaya, rushed to the hotel near the Central bus stand along with about 50 women members. When Khushboo was trying to get into a car, one of the women members allegedly hurled a footwear at her, but missed her.

Khushboo rushed to the airport, where she told reporters that she was in panic as her house had been attacked and she was worried about her children.

A senior police officer in Chennai claimed there had been ‘no vandalism’ and that DMK members dispersed from the spot when they knew that the actor was out of station.

Clarifying her comments, Khushboo told the reporters a the Tiruchy airport, “The party cadre have misunderstood my words. I have been strongly following the party policy ever since I joined the party. I have displayed the pictures of ‘Thalaivar’ (Karunanidhi) and ‘Thalapathi’ (Stalin) at home.

Speaking to Express over phone, she said, “Thalaivar will give Thalapathi his chance by proposing his name for the party president’s post. My way is Thalaiavar’s way. And there ends the matter. It clearly shows where I stand.”

When asked whether she had lodged a complaint against the cadre, Khushboo said, “I have taken up the issue with the party high command and the party would initiate action.”

While she was about to complete her media interaction, the same group of women cadre had reached the airport and wanted to meet her. Within no time, Khushboo fled the spot and went inside the terminal.

Sources said Khushboo tried to clarify her remarks with Stalin but she was not able to speak to him. Meanwhile, support began pouring in for her on Twitter ever since news of the attack broke out.

“I’m emotionally moved at the support from all sides in these trying times. I have always emerged a winner n will do so even now.THANKS! (sic)” Khushboo tweeted.
