Amidst bursting of crackers, special pujas and milk abishekam by fans, the Kamal Haasan starrer Vishwaroopam hit silver screens in Vellore district on Thursday.
President of the North Arcot District Film Distributors Association, Apsara S Balaji said, in Vellore district, the film was screened in 14 theatres, and in Tiruvannamalai, the film opened on 10 screens.
The movie was screened in major towns of Tirupattur, Vaniyambadi, Ambur, Gudiyattam, Arcot, Ranipet, Panapakkam and Arakkonam besides Vellore city.
At Big Cinemas Alankar here, the fans performed floral pujas and broke pumpkins to remove ‘dosham’, when the movie’s first show began on Thursday morning, said Basker, the theatre manager.
District in-charge of the Kamal Haasan Rasikargal Narpani Iyyakkam, Satyanarayanan, who led the celebrations of the first screening of the movie in Vellore said, “This is a real festival of victory for all of us. When the movie had problems and was banned, we were upset. Since the actor had requested for peace and calm, we complied and prayed that hurdles should be removed soon. We are happy now.”
He said he had arranged to take around 250 fans from Vellore to watch the Telugu version of the movie when it was screened in Chittoor in Andhra Pradesh last week. The AP unit of the Kamal Haasan Fan clubs had extended all support to the Vellore fans on the occasion, he said.
M Ravichandran, district secretary of the movement said it is a great relief that everything had been ironed out and the movie was out with a bang. Usually movies are released on Fridays, but this movie was released on a Thursday and the response from movie buffs was overwhelming, he added.
Munna, one of the fans who had seen the movie on the first show on Thursday said, “The movie is a realistic depiction of terrorism and has nothing to do with Muslims here,” he added.
