Pro-Tamil activists protest in front of UNICEF office

Over 500 activists of various pro-Tamil outfits, including cadres of MDMK, were detained today after they protested in front of the UNICEF office here in support of their demand for democratic rights to ethnic Tamils in Sri Lanka.

"United Nations must conduct a referendum to enable ethnic Tamils to get their democratic rights in Sri Lanka," MDMK leader Vaiko said.

Joined by Tamil Nationalist Movement leader Pala Nedumaran, the MDMK leader said that they did not believe in the resolutions brought against Sri Lanka by the United States in the UN Human Rights Council.
