Over 500 activists of variouspro-Tamil outfits, including cadres of MDMK, were detainedtoday after they protested in front of the UNICEF office herein support of their demand for democratic rights to ethnicTamils in Sri Lanka.
"United Nations must conduct a referendum to enable ethnicTamils to get their democratic rights in Sri Lanka," MDMKleader Vaiko said.
Joined by Tamil Nationalist Movement leader PalaNedumaran, the MDMK leader said that they did not believe inthe resolutions brought against Sri Lanka by the United Statesin the UN Human Rights Council.
