Muslim BJP leader alleges threat to life

Barely a week after the murder of ‘Auditor’ Ramesh, the State BJP general secretary in Salem, a Muslim woman functionary of the BJP allegedly got a murder threat on Tuesday.

Following this, police have brought her house here under the protection of armed police guards. Munavari Begum, a resident of Panjaliyur in Krishnagiri district, is one of the State vice-presidents of the party. She has been in the BJP for the past 20 years.

Addressing media persons here on Wednesday, Begum said that she had been receiving anonymous murder threats through phone calls for the past two days. On Tuesday night also she had received one such threat to her life and the caller had used filthy language during the course of conversation, Begum added.

“After a series of threat calls, I lodged a complaint with the Krishnagiri Superintendent of Police on Wednesday and the district police have provided armed police protection,” she said.

The BJP functionaries are being targeted in the State one after the other. In this backdrop, a woman party functionary receiving murder threat has sent a shock wave among the BJP workers in the district.
