Day after a haul of 1.42 kg gold, another similar attempt was foiled by officials at the Comibatore international airport here on Friday.

Sources said that the Department of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 1.5 kg gold, worth around `47 lakh, from a passenger, who arrived here from Sharjah by an Air Arabia flight at 4.30 am. According to DRI officials, the gold was concealed inside the wheels of an unassembled children’s bicycle, which Sakkariah (28), a native of Kannur district in Kerala was carrying as luggage.

Sources said that based on an intelligence tip-off, DRI officials inspected Sakkariah’s luggage and found wired gold concealed between the rim and the tyre of the bicycle.

On Thursday, customs authorities had foiled the bid of a Keralite to smuggle 1.42 kg gold. However, the identity of the passenger in the Thursday case was yet to be ascertained.
