The panel probing into the Dharmapuri caste violence received petitions from the victims of Natham colony violence and conducted inquiries with them, at the collectorate complex here on Friday.
The panel comprising additional secretary of agriculture department R Vasuki, Dr R Palaniswamy, director of animal husbandry and veterinary services, B Muthuramalingam Deputy collector of Salem, Salem Revenue Divisional Officer R Satheesh and P Manoharan PA general to Namakkal collector was constituted following the writ petition filed by Natham colony residents, claiming that they were compensated inadequately.
The probe committee had visited Natham colony, Anna Nagar and Kondampatti on June 9 and had received 441 petitions.
The team had carried out inquiry for three days between June 9 and June 11.
With regard to the petitions, the panel had issued summons to 54 victims from Natham colony, 10 from Anna nagar and 58 from Kondampatti to be present for inquiry on October 4.
On Friday, 54 victims from Natham Colony appeared before the panel and attended the inquiry. A victim of Natham Colony told Express, “We lost our entire livelihood in the riots. Most of us were not given proper compensation. We do not seek additional compensation, we just want what we lost. Most of the residents lost many sovereigns of gold. Though the riots took place eleven months ago, the government should take into consideration the rise in gold prices and compensate us accordingly.”
The inquiry started at around 10.15 am and finished at 5 pm. On Saturday, the panel would conduct inquiry with 58 residents of Kondampatti.
