Union Minister of State for Prime Minister’s Office V Narayanasamy on Saturday demanded the resignation of Chief Minister N Rangasamy citing total failure to maintain law and order in the Union Territory.
Briefing newsmen at a press conference on Saturday, he said, “Owning moral responsibility for making Puducherry a ‘murder city’ from a peaceful city, Rangasamy should resign.”
Having failed to protect the people, the elected government had lost confidence of the people, he said.
Narayanasamy charged that all sorts of crime are happening in Puducherry without any check. He listed out the incidents datewise during the last two months here.
He said traders are being threatened for money by rowdies from prisons using cell phones. Around 90 per cent of them do not come out with any complaints, he said, adding that even if the aggrieved party met the CM for action, he is advising them to pay the demanded money to the rowdies.

Police force in Puduchery is ‘lethargic’ due to the “inefficiency” of the government. Out of the 134 cases of rowdies sent by the Police Department for booking them under the Goondas Act, he alleged that the Chief Minister had kept them in cold storage without according approval. Neither he has bothered to give teeth to the Goondas Act by making necessary amendments to the Act and framing rules to ensure that those booked under the Act are not able to escape by getting relief from court, Narayanasamy said.
He cited the instance of Tamil Nadu government and the way it acted to re-arrest Guru under Goondas Act for the second time after he got relief from the court after his arrest for the first time.
The rowdies are camping in Thattanchavady and Kadirgamam constituencies, he said, and pointed out the murder of ‘Nondi Arumugham’ in front of the Chief Minister’s residence.
He said that he met the Union Home Minister two days ago and apprised him of the law and order situation here. The Home Ministry had sought a report from the State government and it would initiate suitable action after getting the report.
The Union Minister flayed the Chief Secretary and Inspector General of Police for briefing on the law and order situation at a meeting convened by the Home ministry in New Delhi last week which he said was contrary to the facts.
He substantiated his view by stating that immediately two days after the briefing, the French bakery extortion and stabbing incident at Rainbow Nagar had taken place and now the bold attack on the Yanam sub jail.
