MMMK Thanjavur Town Chief Murdered Over Land Dispute

The Thanjavur Town president of Manitha Neya Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (MMMK) Syed Jamaludeen (64) was murdered on Sunday.
Police said that Syed Jamaludeen was riding a moped near his house located at Kundu Thaikkal here on Sunday, when two persons waylaid him and attacked him with an iron bar. Syed Jamaludeen died on the spot. Police enquiry revealed that Jamaludeen’s cousins S Syed Babu (42) and S Syed Hussain (47) were involved in the murder.
Police sources further added that the murder revolved around a dispute in the sale of Wakf Borad property. At Kundu Thaikkal area, there is 31.45 acres of land belonging to the Wakf Board, and another 3.32 acres of land was located at Salaikkaratheru area. Syed Babu and Syed Hussain tried to sell these properties, to which Syed Jamaludeen objected.
It is said that Jamaludeen also went a step further by sending a memorandum to the concerned authorities and distributed pamphlets urging the public not to buy these properties, as they belonged to the Wakf Board. Enraged by this, Syed Babu and Syed Hussain teamed together and bumped off Syed Jamaludeen, police sources said.
Following the murder, Thanjavur Taluk police arrested Syed Babu and Syed Hussain. Investigations are on to ascertain whether some other persons are also involved in the murder.
