Traffic comes to a grinding halt on Gandhi Road here during peak hours and motorists struggle to find a parking space. As several hotels, banks, textile showrooms and some branded outlets are located on this stretch, regular visitors and tourists land up there in large numbers. Most shopping outlets have no parking facility for their customers and the facility provided in a few buildings can hardly accommodate five vehicles.
Vehicles parked in front of commercial establishments occupy a significant portion of the 60-feet wide stretch. “People park their vehicles in front of the shops, making it difficult for customers to enter or exit the shops,” said N Sandeep, a medical shopowner.
Autorickshaws occupy parking slots during peak hours, which only worsens the situation. Local residents seek the setting up of a proper parking zone for smooth flow of traffic.
