Steps to End Traffic Woes in 15 Days: SP

Steps would be taken to narrow down on a solution to address the traffic woes of Vellore city in the next two weeks, Vellore SP Vijayakumar said on Sunday.
He said this while addressing a consultative meeting organized by his department, on the occasion of road safety week celebrations, to listen to the traffic woes faced by the road users in the city. He noted that changes had been introduced in vehicular traffic in the city, to facilitate road users on important roads, which were being repaired due to the ongoing Under Ground Drainage Scheme (UGDS). Despite the fact that certain changes had been made on Arcot road, problems were being reported due to congestion created by autorickshaws and taxis. In order to address these issues, he had invited the gathering to take their suggestions, to come out with a solution.
General manager of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation (Vellore region) Selvaraj, Vellore Corporation commissioner Janaki Ravindran, regional transport officer Prasanna and other officials from various departments took part. A large gathering of drivers of autos and taxis, besides, social activists were present.
At a similar meeting organized at Ambur by the police department on Sunday, on the occasion of the road safety week celebrations, chaired by the DSP Ganesan, the locals while expressing concern over the traffic congestion on the national highway caused by buses being parked on the highway, suggested that instruction should be given to park the buses in the bus stand. They also wanted a timer conrolled traffic system to be installed at the Ambur bypass road junction on the highway. Trucks carrying goods frequenting the crowded bazaar area must be restricted to certain lean hours, they said. The DSP assured that he would forward the suggestions to the SP and do the needful. Members of various associations, civil society organizations and road users had participated in the meeting.
At Gudiyattam where the police combined the meeting as part of the Road Safety Week celebrations, DSP Vijayakumar urged the road users to adhere to driving rules and drive slow.
Vellore RDO Shanmughasundram stressed the importance of careful driving to avert accidents.
