Woman Under-trial Gives Cops the Slip

A woman under-trial prisoner, accused of murdering another woman, escaped from two armed reserve police guards escorting her to the Coimbatore prison after a court hearing in the Nilgiris on Monday.
According to Ambalamela police,the accused Sheena, 29, from Wayanad, Kerala, was accused of murdering a woman Lakshmi in Ootacamund in 2010 and stealing valuables from her house. Sheena was lodged at the Coimbatore Central Prison for the last three years.
On Monday, Sheena was taken to a Mahila Court in the Nilgiris. After the hearing, two armed reserve police guards were taking Sheena back to the Coimbatore prison a bus from Ooty. They arrived at the Gandhipuram bus terminus at around 7.30 p.m on Monday.
Sheena, who was not handcuffed at the time, is said to have taken advantage of the peak hour commuter traffic at the bus station to get lost in the crowd.
Despite the effort of the two armed reserve police to track down Sheena, she could not be found. One of the policemen Raghavan lodged a complaint with the Race Course police an hour- and-a-half after Sheena gave them the slip.
The Race Course police, said a special team of police officers, has been given the responsibility of tracking Sheena.
