Tech Fault Delays Power Bill Payment

PUDUCHERRY: The malfunctioning of a computer at an electricity bill collection centre and the resultant delay in accepting the bill payment in the Town South Centre on Thanbunaikar Street led to a protest by the customers here on Tuesday. The customers were kept waiting for long despite the fact that Tuesday was the last date for the payment of the bills.

According to a customer Bala alias Balasubramanian, one of the two computers could not be used at the collection counter due to a technical fault. The issue was taken up by the higher officials of the Electricity Department on Monday itself in the presence of MLA G Nehru.  The officials had promised to replace the computer, but no steps were taken, he said.

The collection official at the centre struggled to accept payments as over 300 people lined up to pay the bills. After a while, the consumers, who ran out of patience, tried to stage a dharna when the officials intervened and assured that all the bills would  be accepted before the closing time.
