60 Held for Demo Against CBSE Pattern

PUDUCHERRY: The activists of Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam staged a picketing protest at the School Education Complex demanding the withdrawl of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) pattern from government schools.

The activists came in a rally from the Indira Gandhi square, raising slogans against the implementation of the CBSE pattern. Police asked them to disperse when they attempted to enter the premises. This resulted in jostling and pushing. As a many as 60 activists were arrested and removed.

One of the leaders, Veeramohan, said the CBSE system would not benefit rural students and those who wished to pursue studies in vernacular medium.
