Anna University to Release Merit Rank List Today

Anna University in Chennai, will be releasing the rank list of around 1.74 lakh students who have applied for the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA - 2014) on Monday.

COIMBATORE: Anna University in Chennai, will be releasing the rank list of around 1.74 lakh students who have applied for the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission (TNEA - 2014) on Monday.

Anna University, which has sold 2.12 lakh applications, has received 1,73,687 filled in application (1,07,048 males and 66,639 females). This includes 1,68,760 (1,02,357 male; 66,403 female) application under academic stream and 4,927 (4,691 male; 236 female) application under vocational stream.

Under the special reservation, 4,852 (3,450 male; 1,402 female) students have applied under sports quota, 488 (349 male; 139 female) students applied under differently-abled persons quota and 2,518 (1,491 male; 1,027 female) students applied under wards of ex-servicemen quota.

Out of the 1.74 lakh students, who have applied for TNEA-2014, 92,731 students (59,427 male; 33,304 female) are first graduates, who will be eligible for tuition fee waiver.

The Minister for Higher Education P Palaniappan would be releasing the rank list at 10 am on Monday at the university. Students can access their rank at university website.

“We have got the Plus Two revaluation and re-totalling marks from the Directorate of Examination and made corrections. This year, we are also receiving mark details from CBSE and verifying students’ marks and we are already doing this for State Board students. With this, marks of 99 per cent of the TNEA applicants is being checked,” said V Rhymend Uthariaraj, secretary of Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission.

“On Monday, we would also be releasing the counselling date and time for all the short-listed candidates, so that they can organize their travel plan accordingly. We would also be sending an SMS to all the candidates mentioning their counselling date and time, three days ahead of the counselling,” he added.

In this year’s Plus Two public examination 2,710 students have secured centum in Physics, 1,693 students in Chemistry and 3,882 students in Mathematics. This is higher than number of students securing centum in these subjects during previous years. So, Anna University officials hope that this year many students would be getting 200 out of 200 cutoff marks in engineering admission. Last year Anna University has used Random Number to determine the rank of 24 students. This year, it could increase slightly, officials said.
