Film Fest on Transgenders From Today

A film festival on issues faced by transgenders will be organised at St Antony Mahal, near Venkata Subba Reddiar square, Puducherry on June 21 and 22.

PUDUCHERRY: A film festival on issues faced by transgenders will be organised at St Antony Mahal, near Venkata Subba Reddiar square, Puducherry on June 21 and 22.

The film festival is being organised by the Sahodaran Community Oriented Health Development (SCOHD) Society, Progressive Writers Artists Association’s and Puducherry Film Forum.

Tamil Nadu Progressive Writers and Artistes Association President, T Parasuraman, said in a news conference on Friday that the films screened at the festival would be either stories pertaining to transgenders or directed and produced by transgenders. Eminent documentary film director and editor B Lenin, in the presence of Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy, will inaugurate the festival on Saturday evening. The inauguration would be followed by screening of two films   “Mathi Ennum Manithanin Maranam” by B Lenin  and  “Narthagi” by Vijayapadma. Film educator and director M Sivakumar and writer S Tamilselvan would be honoured at the event, which will be presided over by president of SCOHD Society K Sheethal Naik.On Sunday, the screening will start at 9 am.

As many as 18 films would be screened. The valedictory function will be presided over by prof Dr K Panjagam and Dr T Balasaravanan from the department of electronic media and mass communication, Pondicherry University.

The main aim of the festival is to create debate and discourse among the general public to know about the marginalised community of transgenders. The festival is open to all.
