COIMBATORE:  After his party’s drubbing in the recent Lok Sabha polls, DMK treasurer and heir apparent M K Stalin on Sunday sought to win the hearts of youngsters by spending hours together with top scorers in the class X and Plus Two examinations.

Apart from distributing cash prizes at the function held in Chinnapalayam, Stalin had his photos clicked with all the 469 participants from morning till afternoon. What surprised the participants most was the party functionaries handing them over the printed photographs within a few minutes.

Sundar Babu, a resident of Tirunelveli and the father of Rose Mary who secured the State second rank in the SSLC exam by scoring 498 marks, said, “It was a great opportunity for our family members to get themselves clicked with the leader. Its only because of my daughter’s hardwork that we got this opportunity.”

According to K Duraisamy, of Kinathukkadavu, a long time DMK activist and the father of D Haritha, who scored 498 marks in SSLC to secure the second rank, “I have been a member of the party for the past two decades, but this is the first time that I got an opportunity to be near Stalin.”

According to S Mohanapriya, a student from Madurai, “ Stalin congratulated and advised us to make it big in the plus two exams too. I will show the photos to my friends and neighbours.”

The DMK arranged for the transportation, food and accommodation for the parents and students, who had come to attend the ceremony from across the State, at a marriage hall near the venue.
