CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday honoured 99 police personnel who have won trophies and medals in various national events and police duty meets with cash awards totalling `2.80 crore. In 2013 Jayalalithaa hiked the cash awards being given to police personnel tenfold - gold medal (`5 lakh), silver medal (`3 lakh) and bronze medal (`2 lakh). For those winning trophies for the first three places she has hiked the cash awards to `50,000 (first prize), `30,000 (second prize) and `20,000 (third prize).

At the Secretariat the CM inspected the medals and trophies won by Tamil Nadu police personnel in various competitions and wished all of them many more achievements in the coming days.

The events in which the 99 police personnel won the medals were the 11th All India Police Water Sports Championships (Uttarakhand-2012), 13th All India Police Rifle-Pistol Shooting Competition (Odisha-2012), 61st All India Police Wrestling, Judo, Gymnastics, Weightlifting and Boxing Championship (New Delhi-2012), 61st All India Aquatic Meet and Cross Country Race (Guwahati-2013), 62nd All India Aquatic Meet and Cross Country Race (Jaipur-2013), 62nd All India Athletic Championship (Lucknow-2013), 62nd All India Police Wrestling, Judo, Gymnastics, Weightlifting and Boxing Championship (Ranchi-2013), All India Police Volley Ball Cluster (Thrissur-2014), Fourth Police Commando Competition (Chennai-2014)), 14th All India Police Rifle and Revolver-Pistol Shooting Competition (Assam-2014) and 57th All India Police Duty Meet (Haryana-2014). 

The CM also commended five sniffer dogs and coaches, belonging to the TN police, for winning two silver and one bronze medals.
