Duo Admits to Attacking Jail Warder

VELLORE: A man, arrested in connection with a robbery case by Kundrathur police in Kanchipuram, confessed that he and his friend attacked the second-grade jail warder of Vellore Central Prison on June 21.

Police sources said that Gobinath, a history-sheeter in Kundrathur was arrested recently by Kundrathur police in connection with various robbery cases in the locality.

During the inquiry, he confessed that he had attacked the jail warder Prem Anand along with his friend Baskran to take revenge.

Gobinath and Baskaran had been lodged in Vellore Prison months ago in connection with certain robbery cases during which time, Prem Anand allegedly tortured the duo for no apparent reason.

After the two were released on June 21, Prem Anand was attacked by Gobinath and Baskaran with an ‘aruval’ and a knife near a government school in Thorapadi.

Prem Anand collapsed on the spot and with the help of commuters was taken to the Government Vellore Medical College and Hospital with severe head injuries and later referred to a private hospital in the city. 

A case was registered by Bagayam police station. “As of now, we have not taken custody of Gobinath from Kundrathur police but we will soon do so  with a warrant,” said Veerappan, Inspector of Bagayam police station limit adding that they will also detain the other perpetrator, Baskaran.
