Ghost Tiruchy University on UGC Fake List

TIRUCHY: Despite explanations given by the Department of Higher Education of Tamil Nadu to the University Grants Commission (UGC) about the non-existence of DDB Sanskrit University, Tiruchy, UGC has again enlisted the university as fake in its list.

On July 1, the UGC declared a total of 21 universities across the country as fake self-styled institutions and DDB Sanskrit University, Tiruchy is the lone university from Tamil Nadu listed in it. However, there is no such university functioning in Puthur area as mentioned by UGC in its list.

“In the academic year 2011-12, UGC sought a detailed report about the existence and functioning of DDB Sanskrit university, Tiruchy, since the university had applied for a renewal with UGC. Following this, our team conducted a spot inspection and sent a report to UGC saying that there was no such university and also recommended not to grant or renew the licence of DDB Sanskrit university. Hence, the inclusion of the university in the recent fake university list clearly shows the lethargic attitude of UGC, ” a top official from department of higher education told Express, seeking anonymity.

The residents of Puthur area were also startled and said that they had not seen any such university in their surroundings.

When Express contacted H Devaraj, Vice-chairman of UGC, he refuted the allegations of department of higher education, TN. “The DDB Sanskrit university might have vacated the buil-

dings, after it was declared a fake university. However, the publication of fake university list will help the general public from falling prey to to such bogus universities,” Devaraj stressed.
