VELLORE: Under a new ‘special scheme for the poor women headed households’, the Vellore unit of the Tamil Nadu Corporation for Development of Women has launched a first-of-its-kind skill development training programme for women breadwinners.
Forty women in the age group of 18-45 from the three blocks of Kaniyambadi, Vellore and Katpadi have been selected by the scheme to undergo a month long training programme in tailoring that would be imparted by the Indian Bank Self Employment Training Institute based in Katpadi.
Project officer Lokanayaki explained that a household where either no adult males are present, owing to divorce, separation, migration, non-marriage or widowhood or where men although present, do not contribute to household management is a woman headed household.
These are the most vulnerable families in the society both economically and socially. This scheme aims to uplift such households, she added.
