PUDUCHERRY: In a bid to recover property tax dues Oulgaret Municipality has formed 45 special teams to visit every house and serve demand notes in seven constituencies under its jurisdiction.
Oulgaret Municipal Commissioner M S Ramesh said that the municipality after assessing the properties, has issued demand notes by specifying the quantum of tax to be paid.
Based on that, the tax should be paid either by the owner of the property or by the occupier under Section 118 of Property tax of Puducherry Municipality act, 1973.
Each special team comprises of three members who would visit every house on Saturdays. So far the teams have visited the houses and commercial establishments in Saram and Brindavanam wards under Kamaraj Nagar constituency and served notes to more than 3,000 houses. They have been given a week’s time to pay the tax, he said. The exercise will continue till all are covered in the seven Assembly constituencies of Oulgaret which are, Thattanchavady, Indira Nagar, Kadirkamam, Kalapet, Lawspet, Kamaraj Nagar and Nellithope.
