Call for Judicial Probe Into Ambur Clash

VELLORE: Hindu Munnani leader Rama Gopalan demanded judicial inquiry into the violence in Ambur on June 27, in which several police personnel were injured.

Addressing media persons on Sunday, Rama Gopalan said, “A judicial inquiry should be conducted into the Ambur violence. The government should also compensate traders and the public, whose properties were damaged in the violence.”

Invoking Section 144 (1) of the CrPC in Ambur, Vaniyambadi and surrounding areas from July 6 to July 15, he said, was a delayed action and that the violence was due to the failure of government machinery and the police department.

Rama Gopalan also requested the government to honour and promote Constable M Vijayakumar, who sustained serious injuries while saving three women police personnel from the protestors.
