Perur Lake to Get Park, Walking Track

COIMBATORE: After developing the Ukkadam lake bunds exclusively for two-wheeler riders, the corporation has now decided to set up a park and walking track at the bunds of Perur lake.

The bunds of the lake were levelled by clearing bushes and shrubs. Concrete structures were laid in about 500 metres. In addition, paver block stones dismantled from Ukkadam bunds will be used.

Councillor (ward no.89) M Selvamani demanded the corporation to implement the projects at the earliest. “Currently, the public are using Kovaipudur 100-feet-road for walking, but the area is not sufficient to acomodate the rising crowd. Large number of people in Sundakkamuthur are expected to use the walking track as a park is also proposed at the Perur lake,” he said.

According to sources, a contractor has been selected to set up a park and walking track on the lake bunds through tender process conducted on February 25. The entire work will be carried out at a cost of `74.70 lakh.

The civic body has also decided on similar projects in Vellalore dumpyard. “We will carry out certain development and as well as additional works at the vermi compost yard in Vellalore dumpyard at a cost of `74.50 lakh,” said a civic body source.
