Rapist Surrenders in Cuddalore Court

CUDDALORE: Curtains came down on the three-week long controversy over the Madras High Court order of mediation between a rapist and his victim with the accused Mohan surrendering before the Mahila Court here on Monday.

The case kicked up a controversy after the judge directed mediation while hearing the bail petition of Mohan, who was sentenced to seven years in jail by the Mahila Court for raping a minor girl. The mediation session was to take place on Monday. However, the Supreme Court ordered that compromise should not be thought of in rape cases. Following this, on July 10, Justice P Devadass recalled his order and also cancelled the interim bail granted to the rapist. Further, he ordered Mohan to surrender before the Cuddalore Mahila Court on July 13.

Accordingly, Mohan surrendered before the Magistrate Selvam at 10.30 am on Monday. After verification, the magistrate ordered that Mohan’s jail sentence would continue. Following this, he was taken to the Cuddalore Central Prison.
