Two CMC Medicos Killed, 1 Injured

VELLORE: Two students of the Christian Medical College (CMC) were killed and one seriously injured in a road accident when the car they were travelling in rammed into a roadside tree near their college, on Monday.

The deceased were identified as A Joel Rajkumar (21), of Tiruchy and P Jeffery Solomon (21), of Vellore, while their classmate A Abineeth of Ahmedabad sustained serious injuries and is undergoing treatment.

“They were third year students of MBBS. Solomon was the son of Dr Vinitha Ravindran, Deputy Dean of CMC Nursing College, and Dr Paul Ravindran of CMC Hospital,” said authorities in the institution.

Rajkumar was behind the wheels of his car. The three were heading towards the CMC hospital from the college campus at Bagayam, nearly 7 kilometres from Vellore.

The accident occurred around 9.30 am when they were a few hundred metres from the college. Rajkumar lost control of the vehicle resulting in the car slamming against a roadside tamarind tree in a crash that left two of the three people in the car dead and the front portion of the car extensively damaged and.

“Rajkumar was killed instantly,” said police.

It took nearly an hour to rescue Solomon by the police and Fire Service personnel. He was sitting in the front seat, trapped in the mangled car as the doors of the car were jammed, making the rescue work difficult for the fire brigades and the policemen.

Solomon and Abineeth were rushed to the hospital. However, Solomon was declared brought dead at the hospital, while Abineeth is undergoing treatment.

A case has been registered in this regard at the Bagayam police station and an inquiry is on.
