Wife Among Four Arrested for Man's Murder

COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore District police on Monday arrested four persons, including a woman, allegedly for murdering her husband.

The deceased, N Gnanasekar (47) from Pollachi, who worked in an eatery, was found dead near an electric crematorium in Anamalai last Tuesday.

The incident had attracted more than usual attention as his friend, G Sureshgobi (45), consumed poison soon afterwards, saying that he feared arrest.

The police now say that this was a diversionary tactic. During the investigation, it was found that Sureshgobi was having illicit relations with Kasthuri (33), wife of Gnanasekar. As Gnanasekar came to know about the affair, Kasthuri and her paramour decided to murder him, police said.

As per their plan, Sureshgobi took Gnanasekar to Anamalai to consume liquor where along with three accomplices, Gnanasekar was crushed to death with stones after getting him drunk. His face was also disfigured.

Sureshgobi’s accomplices - L Sanjeevi (32), K Moid-eenbasha (31), and T Sabarinathan (34) - have been arrested.

Sureshgobi is yet to be arrested as he is being treated in the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for consuming poison. According to the police, Sureshgobi had taken the poison in the hope of diverting attention from him.

All the five, including Gnanasekar’s wife, Kasthuri, have been booked under IPC Section 302 (murder). The four, who were arrested last Tuesday, have been remanded.
