BJP Blames MMK for Bomb Attack

KARAIKUDI: Two-wheeler borne miscreants hurled petrol bombs at the  house of BJP national secretary H Raja in the town around 10.30 pm on Monday. No one was injured in the attack and Raja too was not present in the house when the incident took place.

The two security guards put out the fire immediately and alerted the police.

Condemning  petrol bomb attack on his house, Raja on Tuesday alleged that it was the handiwork of a Muslim political outfit.

Suspecting the involvement of Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) cadre, he claimed that they could have carried out this in retaliation to his demand that Muslim girls not be allowed to take exams wearing purdha. Following this, a private college in Tiruvarur had decided to change the dress code, he noted.

BJP State president Tamilisai Soundarajan condemned the attack. In a statement, she said that the attack was carried out with an ulterior motive as it took place even as Raja was in the midst of a speech at a public meeting in Chennai. She appealed for an impartial inquiry into the incident.

Minister of State Pon Radhakrishnan too denounced the attack and called on the State government to provide  extra security to Raja and bring to book the culprits involved in the attack.

Earlier, Sivaganga SP M Durai inspected the spot and said, “Three special teams, headed by a DSP, had been formed to nab the culprits.”
