Drop Proposal for Amending Child Labour Act, Says CACL

PUDUCHERRY:  The Campaign Against Child Labour (CACL), a civil society forum, on Tuesday sought changes to the Amendment Bill on Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Act, 1986 approved by Cabinet recently.

In a memorandum to P Kannan, MP, CACL has appealed for prohibiting employment of children below 18 years in all occupations. Also, the age of prohibition of employment be linked to age under National Policy for Children, 2013. There should not be any exemption to allow child labour in any form, said P Joseph Victor Raj, National Convener of CACL.

“It will be difficult for government to find out whether the ‘employer’ is the natural parent, guardian or an entrepreneur.” he added.
