Puducherry not Facing Cash Crunch, Says Chief Minister

PUDUCHERRY:  Charging that vested interests were spreading falsehood about the financial position of the Union Territory, Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Wednesday said only he was the competent authority to talk about it because as head of the government he knows whether funds are available or not.

Speaking after inaugurating the newly constructed building for Dr Ambedkar Govt Higher Secondary School at Kirumampakkam Rangasamy, however, did not delve into details of Puducherry’s financial situation.

Even as opposition parties are attacking the government charging that the UT was facing severe financial crunch and that funds were being diverted from one department to another, the Chief Minister reiterated that all schemes announced by the government would be implemented properly. Acknowledging that there was slackness in implementing schemes for Adi Dravidar welfare, Rangasamy said the schemes of the department will be completed and funds were available for the purpose.

The Chief Minster said efforts are being taken to fill up the teachers vacancies and legal issues are being resolved up so that the appointments could be made. He said all steps were being taken to ensure basic amenities are provided in government schools.

Skips NITI Aayog meeting

Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Wednesday skipped the NITI Aayog meeting held under the chairmanship of PM Narendra Modi at New Delhi.  Rangasamy conveyed his inability to attend to the meeting through a letter to the Prime Minister on Tuesday night, office of the CM said. CM had cited his pressing commitments on account of Kamaraj birth anniversary celebrations here. As the CM  cannot be represented by others as per protocol of the meeting, no one can be deputed, said his office. This is the second time the CM is  missing a meeting with the PM, giving rise to speculations of a rift between the NR Congress and BJP. Rangasamy on June 25 had missed his flight to New Delhi for the launch of Smart City project.
