Chouhan Should Quit: Karat

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan should resign in view of the Vyapam scam, the CPM leader Prakash Karat said here.

COIMBATORE: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan should resign in view of the Vyapam scam, the CPM leader Prakash Karat said here on Wednesday.

“Over 45 people have died in mysterious circumstances in connection with the scam. The CBI would be able conduct a free and fair probe only if Chief Minister steps down,” Prakash Karat told reporters at the Coimbatore International Airport.

Prakash Karat was in the city on his way to speak at a public meeting in Erode, where the the CPM’s State Committee meeting would be held on Thursday and Friday.

Prakash Karat expects the Union government to withdraw the Land Acquisition Bill. As farmers as well as political parties across the country are against the Bill, the government has no option but to withdraw it, he said.

The Congress and BSP are staging protests saying that the bill is anti-farmer and pro-business, he added further. Further Karat also said the Union government should stop interfering in media issues as it was against the right to freedom of expression.
