Four Maoists Produced in Kovai Court

Four alleged Maoists, arrested by Q Branch police near Karumathampatty in May, were produced before Principal District Judge R Pongiappan.

COIMBATORE: Four alleged Maoists, arrested by Q Branch police near Karumathampatty in May, were produced before Principal District Judge R Pongiappan on Wednesday.

Roopesh, Shyna, Anup, Easwaran and Kannan were arrested at a tea shop in Karumathampatty.

The prosecutor had invoked section 311A, CrPC as the prosecution had wanted to compare samples of their signature with the seized documents and pamphlets. The attorney representing the five defendants, S Balamurugan was also present during the hearing.

A few days ago, a team of police from Kerala had taken Anup to Kerala for interrogation. Hence, he could not be produced before the judge on Wednesday. The next hearing in the case was posted for July 29.
