Two Held for Smuggling 28 Kg Ganja

The Government Railway Police attached to Jolarpet Railway Junction arrested two persons in the possession of 28 kg of Ganja.

VELLORE:The Government Railway Police attached to Jolarpet Railway Junction on Tuesday arrested two persons in the possession of 28 kg of Ganja.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of police officials led by Inspector M Gunasekaran arrested  Ramamurthi (46) and Palpandi (35) of Uthamapalayam waiting at the northern side of the platform no I Jolarpet station on Tuesday evening with 28 kg of Ganja worth Rs 3 lakh in the market.

On inquiry, police learned that they bought the contraband from their source in Annagapalli in Andhra Pradesh and smuggled it into Theni district. They alighted from the Kakinada Express and were waiting for an auto on the first platform at about 5 pm on Tuesday, said the Inspector.

“They purchased the contraband for Rs 1 lakh. They have been indulging in this illegal act for the last few months. They have been selling the contraband in and around Kerala and Tamil Nadu border in Theni district,” said Inspector Gunasekaran.
