PUDUCHERRY: Ozhukarai Municipality authorities and police faced an embarrassing situation on Thursday after they attempted to evict a hotel, which has been functioning on an encroached space, near JIPMER hospital here.

Municipal authorities removed the properties, utensils and other items from the hotel and asked the shop owner to vacate the premises. However, the shop owner approached CM N Rangasamy who was reportedly available in a nearby area at the time of eviction.

The shop owner, using the name of CM asked the officials not to evict him from the premises. Following this, the authorities returned the seized properties and left the place. The Municipality officials said they had issued notices to the shop keepers, who set up shops encroaching upon the spaces opposite to JIPMER gate.
