Bus Conductor Held in Techie Assault Case

CHENNAI: Kancheepuram police on Saturday arrested the conductor of a MTC bus who reportedly slapped a techie when she asked him why the bus was not stopped at the designated stop near her office on Old Mahabalipuram Road recently.

Cases were booked against the conductor, M Mahesh, under sections 294 b (using obscene language) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

In her complaint, Deepika Balasubramanian stated that the crew of the bus on route 568 picked up an altercation when she asked for a ticket to the bus stop in front of her office on Wednesday.

A circular had earlier been issued to employees of the IT major mentioning that all buses would halt there.

“He snatched my mobile and slapped on my cheek, when I started to record his behaviour.

When I asked him to state on record that the bus will not stop at the TCS bus stop, he got infuriated and assaulted me.

He also threatened to kill me if I argued further,” she said in the complaint.

Further, Mahesh retorted that he would not be able to stop the bus at every stop during rush hours.

Following this, Deepika started videographing him asking if it was the official stand of the MTC when he became violent and assaulted her.

He also reportedly threatened to make her life miserable if she lodged a complaint.
