Pondicherry University Warns Students, Faculty Against Protests

PUDUCHERRY: Pondicherry University has warned its students, staff and faculty against participating in protests as they would be a violation of the code of conduct.

In a release on Sunday, the varsity  management said action under the Pondicherry University Act would be taken against those who protest. Meanwhile, the students announced they would hold a demonstration on Monday, demanding hostel accommodation for the needy students, and restoring facilities like battery cars and bicycles.

University, in another release, said that after holding discussions, V-C Chandra Krishnamurthy had directed the hostel authorities to accommodate all the students in the hostels immediately and that no student would be left without accommodation on the campus.

V-C said all the new constructed buildings would be put to use within a month. The newly-built Central Library Annexe was expected to be inaugurated by the Lt Governor A K Singh in the last week of July. She said the unused battery cars would be put to use shortly as the process of electrical to solar conversion was underway. The pending merit scholarships for PG students would be given within two days.
