'Suspected' Chinese Crackers Seized by Corporation?

CHENNAI: A fire cracker shop has been sealed by the Corporation and Revenue officials after it was found selling ‘suspected’ Chinese crackers - which are banned in the country and have been the matter of much contention in the last few weeks.

The seizure was made during a raid on the shop located on East Mada street in Thiruvanmiyur. The joint which carried out the raid, spotted images of Chinese nationals and Mandarin text on the wrappers of several crackers.

Subsequently, the team collected samples from the shop which have been sent  for testing. The shop was sealed by the officials.

The seizure comes in the wake of a government crackdown on the import and sales of these crackers. According to domestic industry sources, the influx of Chinese firecrackers has affected revenue and sales of the domestic kind which have come down by a whopping 33% in two years.
