Pondy DMK Rebel MLA Woos Lawspet with 1kg Sugar Gift

PUDUCHERRY:Having secured the green signal from Chief Minister Rangasamy to contest the 2016 Assembly polls on an AINRC ticket from Lawspet, rebel DMK MLA from Muthialpet, Nandha Saravanan has begun to woo voters of Lawspet by distributing 1 kg of free sugar to each of them ahead of Deepavali.

While the sugar packets he distributed has his photo on their covers, the 15 vehicles in which the sugar was carried from house to house have pictures of both Rangasamy and himself.

Around 25,000 voters will get one kg of sugar, said his supporters.

It is the third year in a row that he is distributing free sugar during Deepavali in Lawspet.

In a bid to woo students and parents he had also distributed two-wheelers, laptops and gold coins of 8 grams to toppers of Higher Secondary and SSLC exams, a month back. Other students who had passed the board exams were given watches, school bags, note books and hot packs.

Nandha Saravanan (45), a two-time DMK MLA from Muthialpet is a native of Lawspet. He has been nurturing the constituency since 2002.

However, he never had the opportunity to contest from Lawspet due to alliance compulsions. In 2006, DMK fought the elections in alliance with the Congress and Lawspet was assigned to Congress candidate M O H F Shajahan.
