'Over One Lakh Passports Issued in 10 Months'

COIMBATORE: The Regional Passport Office in Coimbatore has issued over a lakh passport in the first 10 months of the year.

A press release from the Regional Passport Officer S Sasikumar said that from January 1 to  October 30, the office had received 1,12,257 applications for passport, of which 1,09,639 were approved and issued. Last year, the RPO had received 1,15,420 applications and issued 1,16,010 passports.

“This year we have issued a record number of more than one lakh passports within 10 months. This achievement is a proof for the consistent, sustained growth of this office and the excellence in service,” he added.

He also said the office was consistently attending to the grievances of the public, by periodical review, detailed analysis and in implementing several innovative measures, ever since the opening of Passport Seva Kendra on August 4, 2011.

The Regional Passport Office had issued 96,166 passports in 2011, 79,640 in 2012, 99,586 in 2013, 1,13,290 in 2014 and 1,10,209 passports till October this year. Apart from this, 1,956 miscellaneous services in 2011, 1,211 in 2012, 1,383 in 2013, 1,914 in 2014 and 2,048 till October this year were rendered.

To achieve this target, the average number of appointments released daily is 725 and the average number of passports issued per month this year is 10,100, Sasikumar pointed out.
