CHENNAI: The Kancheepuram police found the dead body of a eight-year-old in Guduvancheri on Sunday.
Residents of Mahalakshmi Nagar near Guduvancheri found the body near a local private matriculation school, which was half burnt.
They informed the local police, who recovered the body, which was wrapped in a gunny bag.
Police sources said that during preliminary investigations, they found that the eight-year-old was strangled with a rope before being tied and burnt using petrol.
Since the body was half burnt, the police were unable to identify the gender of the body.
Police sources said that they were collecting the list of missing children from the region to identify the child.
That the murder could have happened elsewhere and the body disposed of here is an angle that is also being looked into.
For further investigation, the body was sent to the Chengalpattu Government Hospital.
