VCK, CPM Demand Probe

CHENNAI:The VCK and CPM on Friday demanded a probe into the irregularities in the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme following reports throwing light on the malpractices at Usilampatti in Madurai district. VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan said misappropriation to the tune of Rs 30 lakh had been found at Usilampatti in the implementation of the scheme, raising doubts that such malpractices could be occurring in many places in the State. The State government should order an inquiry by a High Court Judge. CPM State secretary G Ramakrishnan said the audit done by the State government had found that fake accounts had been submitted claiming 1200 beneficiaries, when only 672 persons had benefited.
