Parents Reject Suicide angle, Claim Techie was Murdered

CHENNAI: Fresh controversy has reared its head over the death of S Deepika, the techie who allegedly jumped off the 15th floor of a building in Singapore recently. The parents, who had alleged that their daughter took the extreme step because of harassment from her husband, were stunned to notice cuts around her neck and hands when the body reached Chennai airport on Saturday.

The family staged a protest with the body on the busy Kamaraj Salai.

“They said she fell from a 15th floor building. How come her head is fine and there are no broken limbs,” asked her grief stricken mother, S Usha. “We want to show everyone about this injustice,” said Thilagavathi, a family member, who along with others was pulling people to get a glimpse of the techie’s body. “Does it look like she’s jumped off 15 floors, and landed with cuts and wounded her right foot?” she asked. “She must’ve been beaten to death, and all those messages sent to her sister must have been done by her husband,” she added.

The family claims that Deepika was murdered by her husband, S Jayaprakash. “Her husband and his family had problems with her since the beginning. Despite all the expenses borne by us, Deepika’s husband continued to illtreat her.  They finally took away her life and staged it as suicide,” said Anandi, another relative.

Meanwhile, police from Beach station tried to pacify the angry crowd. “It is the Singapore police that should be blamed, what role do we have in it,” said an official while controlling the crowd.

Deepika’s family is demanding that her husband, S Jayaprakash, and his parents, Sekaran and Parimala Nair, both residents of KK Nagar, be arrested immediately. “We want him to be brought from Singapore immediately. He has killed our daughter and is hiding,” said her grandmother, who was inconsolable.

It took over half an hour for the police with grudging cooperation from the family to remove Deepika’s body to the mortuary at the Royapettah Government Hospital.
