Murugadas Captured Devotional Music Soul

CHENNAI: While there have been many great saints who attained the Lord’s feet after intense penance and following the path of spirituality throughout their lives, Muruga devotee ‘Pithukuli’ Murugadas’ (95) case is perhaps unique.

The well-known devotional singer passed away at 3.30 am on Tuesday at his residence in Mylapore.

“Murugadas was born on Thaipoosam, an auspicious day for Lord Muruga, and passed away on Skanda Sashti, again considered very auspicious for Lord Muruga,” recalled his emotional family members.

Murugadas composed many a devotional song in Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi and Marathi and sung them with great fervour. He got the title ‘pithukuli’ from his spiritual guru Nadayogi Brahmananda Paradesiyar.
