Engineering Student Barred From College Exams

PUDUCHERRY: A second year B Tech student from a poor family was denied the opportunity to write his third semester university examination on Thursday in a private college for failing to pay tuition fees.

Shakti from Kalapet, Puducherry, doing the electrical and electronics engineering course in Bharathiar College of Engineering in Karaikal got admission in 2014-2015. He sailed through with the government paying Rs 25,000 towards tuition fees under the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Financial Assistance scheme and balance of Rs 12,000 he managed through his savings, his father contribution and borrowing some money from a relative, said Sakthi. This year, his father who works in a  hotel was unable to arrange money and send him to college. He had sought 15 days time to arrange the money (Rs 12,000) to pay the fees. However, the college had not granted him no time and did not issue hall ticket for writing his university exam.
